Art Talks: Laurent-David Garnier
Artist Talk (in English)
• Mittwoch 23. Mai 2018, 17:30, Ateliergebäude, A 0.11 (Doppeldeckraum)
Laurent-David Garnier’s transdisciplinary practice interrogates the nature of reality at the molecular, embodied and societal levels, experimenting with new materiality and concept, which result in unexpected works. Garnier’s investigations explore the olfaction as a practice in relation to the physical examination of its experience in the context of contemporary art. His practice navigates between benign objects and technology.
His works have no definite meaning and are only achieved by the unique embrace nearness of the viewer, pushing the boundaries of perceptual experience, questioning how do we experience their gaseous volume, their arising or failure in shared interactions in both public or private spaces. According to Garnier, fragrances contain institutional codes and conventions.
Laurent-David Garnier (FR) is an artist (M.F.A. Sandberg Institute) and a senior perfumer by training (M.Sc. ISIPCA) and trade (IFF among other’s). He currently lives and works between the Netherlands and France. His work has been exhibited at institutions and galleries including Kunsthalle, Bremerhaven (DE); Kunstvereniging, Diepenheim (NL); Peninsular Singapore (SG); Vitrine Basel (CH), Ellen de Bruijne Projects (NL); Stedelijk Museum (NL); de Appel arts centre (NL); Kunstverein Amsterdam (NL); Ausstellungsraum Klingental, Basel (CH).
