Feliz Navidad ♥

Season Greetings

Our Christmas Greetings to you all from a «Haraway Blooming Flower» in person.

Here is a wish for these days, and all the days to come after these days: the discovery, in all of us, of an inexhaustible goodwill. Think about this proposition not only as a personal call, but also as an artistic, even political one: the demand for the blossoming of a type of experience that would turn into a method to annihilate resentment. We are constantly exposed to troubled human behavior. We perpetually read about the wrong doings of a resentful president of an influential Western country; about all those men who misbehave; about terrorism… But in less radical ways we also hear about bureaucratic and corporate ideas of success and how technology is involved as an evil friend that negatively modifies social behaviors, affecting the way we see life—without even giving technology a chance to be good!

Our universe is permeated with nullifying feelings that radically alter our ability to give, to accept vulnerability, to be generous, to love… Also, time has proved that a strong insistence on the right behavior is sadly insufficient to erase resentment, to assure equality, to secure freedom, to maintain democracy… And it is the knowledge of this fact that has probably motivated humans to originate the arts. Art, not as a result but as a resource, as an organ that continuously stimulates our trust in experience, reminding us how experience impinges behavior and how life depends on it. Life—our life, the life of all bacteria and animals and plants and the life of the oceans and even the life of the winds and the mountains—all life is radically dependent on empathy. It seems easy, but it is not, since as complexity grows and resentment proliferates, the nature of all our perceptual encounters suffers; it is debilitated. And here a proposal: art is this organ, this resource, this inexhaustible goodwill. And every time you hear art makes no sense, then try to think about how equality or the future of life on our planet or freedom can be imagined without an inexhaustible goodwill.

¡¡ Feliz Navidad !!
