Judith Kakon (born in Basel) is an artist, currently living and working in Basel. She received her Master from Bard MFA, New York (2016) and her Bachelor from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem (2013). Her works are of structural and thematic nature. As an observer and commentator of the interrelations between globalization, society and trade, she traverses contradictory networks of social laws, image systems, and memory that we unconsciously inhabit and are inhabited by — mediates between extreme past and presence. Her work encompasses sculpture, installation, image-making as well as the use of text sources, frequently borrowed from transnational English. The exhibition as medium plays an intrinsic role in her way of working, occasionally it results in curatorial and collaborative work.
Recent shows were hosted by venues such as Ventilator, Tel Aviv (2019); SALTS, Birsfelden (2019); Anorak with Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart (2018); Riverside Space, Worblaufen (2018); Stiftung Alexander Bürkle, Freiburg (2017); Kunsthaus Langenthal (2017); Studioli, Rome (2016); Taylor Macklin, Zurich (2015); Kunsthaus Glarus (2015). She was awarded with the Kiefer Hablitzel Göhner Kunstpreis in 2017. In 2019, together with Hannah Weinberger and Alice Wilke she curated Hidden Barat Art Basel.
